I am sure in these rather strange and politically tense times I am not the only person feeling completely lost and helpless - it often seems like I can’t do anything else but watch absurd and unacceptable things unfold right in front of my eyes. But something is changing this feeling and making me more optimistic - the ongoing student anti corruption protests in Serbia. Following the railway station canopy collapse in Novi Sad, which left 15 people dead, Serbian students have been (at the time of writing this) protesting against their corrupt government for the past four months and have started a nation wide movement bringing the art of protest back to life - making me very interested in their history, symbolism and societal impact in general. What did student movements change in the 60s and 70s? How does one organise a protest? What does a revolution sound like? What makes a good protest chant or sign? When did teargas start being used as “riot control”? When does a protest turn into a revolution? What are everyday acts of protest? If you are interested in the above questions, if you are someone who attends protests often, or if you are someone who wants to, but never finds the time and feels guilty about it - this LotLab is for you. About me: Maruša Sirc is a theatre directing student from Slovenia currently finishing her studies at AGRFT mostly interested in devised projects focusing on socio-political themes.
